この曲について
前回は「Master of Puppets」の間奏部分を弾いたので、今回はその続きから最後まで弾いてみようと思いました。 この曲を初めてカバーしたのは、18歳ぐらいのころです。 当時は市販のTAB譜を見て弾いていましたが、今回は耳コピで音を拾い、自分で譜面を作りました。
難しかったところと練習
いちばん難しかったのは、18歳のころにTAB譜で覚えた弾き方と、今回耳コピで拾った音との違いでした。 その違いに慣れるために何度も弾いて練習しましたが、それでも覚えきれないところがありました。 今回は、自分で作った譜面を見ながら演奏しています。
演奏の速さ
この動画では、原曲の70％の速さに落として弾いています。 それでも難しい部分はありますが、この曲が持っているドライブ感を大切にすると、弾いていて楽しい曲だと思います。 速さの面ではカバーするのが大変な曲ですが、メタリカの代表曲の一つでもあり、挑戦する価値は十分あると思います。
使ったベースと音作り
今回も、いつものFenderプレシジョンベースを指弾きで演奏しています。 エフェクターは使わず、ミキサーに直接つないでいます。 音作りもいつものセッティングで、ミキサーのEQでは低音（BASS）をかなり下げています。

About This Song
Last time, I covered the interlude of “Master of Puppets,” so this time I wanted to continue from there and play through to the end. I first covered this song when I was about eighteen. Back then, I used commercially published tabs. This time, I worked out the bass part by ear and made my own score.
The Hard Part and How I Practiced
The hardest part was the difference between the way I had learned it from tabs at eighteen and the notes I picked out by ear this time. I played it over and over to get used to those differences, but there were still parts I could not fully memorize. For this recording, I played while reading the score I had made myself.
Playing at 70% Speed
In this video, I play at 70% of the original speed. Some parts are still difficult, even at that tempo, but I find the song fun to play when I keep its driving feel in mind. Its speed makes it a challenging cover, but as one of Metallica’s signature songs, I think it is well worth taking on.
Bass and Tone
As usual, I am playing my Fender Precision Bass fingerstyle. I connect directly to the mixer without effects pedals. I use my usual tone settings, with the bass frequencies turned down quite a lot on the mixer’s EQ.
